Does Teacher Education Need Reform?

Recently experts have focused their attention on not only the need to reform the classroom, but the need for reform in educating our future teachers. Many colleges of education have done little to keep up with emerging technologies and teaching techniques. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan once said, "Our university-based teacher preparation programs need revolutionary change, not evolutionary tinkering." To that end, an emphasis on intense in-classroom training has been the focus of change for a new pilot program being introduced in eight states.

Charter Schools Serving as Models for Other Public Schools


Charter schools were designed as a "research and development" outlet for public schools. Operating on state funds, public charter schools have been able to implement new ideas for their students and teachers without having to follow the same rigid structures of some public schools. The U.S. Department of Education is now conducting a feasibility study on ways to support the spread of promising charter school practices across the country.

 

 
PACE Awards Educator with Funds for the Classroom

Englewood, CO – The Professional Association of Colorado Educators (PACE) is pleased to announce that Ms. Jacque Forchette, teacher at Knowledge Quest Academy, has been awarded a $500 grant to buy graphing calculators for her classroom.

 

 “Graphing calculators give students an instant look at a graph.  After a student learns how to pencil and paper a graph, the next step is to learn how to use the graphing calculator,” said Forchette.  “Our students relate to this technology with a swift, delighted, and surprised understanding.  They see the ‘problem solving’ happen on the grid.”
