School choice is making an impact! According to the Center for Education Reform, there are over 2 million students in public charter schools, over 5 million students enrolled in private schools, over 1.5 million students who take advantage of homeschooling, and approximately 250,000 students enrolled in full-time online schools. These new settings are providing students with options and teachers with opportunities.

Further, 74% of Americans support the fundamental right of parents to choose a school best suited for their child. Those between the ages 25-34 are even more supportive of school choice than the average American, at 81%. With school choice only growing, it’s paramount that Americans understand what school choice is and how it greatly benefits students, teachers, and communities. Clearly the support for choice is growing.

We hope that our members get involved this week as we celebrate innovations in education. An authentic teacher voice is instrumental in crafting policy that works for all stakeholders. Visit the AAE blog for profiles in choice and the National School Choice website for more opportunities to get involved.
