Professional Association of Colorado Educators Praises the House Passage of Pro-Teacher Legislation HB 1333

Englewood, CO – The Professional Association of Colorado Educators (PACE), Colorado’s premier non-union organization for teachers, today praised the passing of House Bill 1333 through the Colorado House of Representatives, a measure aimed at promoting fairness among union and non-union teachers and their associations. The bill passed on a party line vote and will now move on to the Senate for consideration.

“Teaching is one of the most noble professions in America,” said Representative Jon Becker, (R-Fort Morgan), the bill’s sponsor and husband of a teacher. “They should be allowed to enter and exit unions at their discretion, without facing any kind of pressure.”

Currently in most of Colorado's largest school districts, teachers cannot revoke union membership and pay pricey dues unless they notify the union during 2-3 week window in the fall. House Bill 1333 would ensure that teachers be afforded the right to revoke their membership of any association, at any time and for any reason."

The passage of HB 1333 is a critical first step in ensuring all teachers are in control of their hard-earned dollars," said PACE Membership Director Tim Farmer. “We hope that the Senate recognizes that HB 1333 is commonsense legislation that wisely addresses the imbalance in the way our education system operates.”

HB 1333 passed the House on a Republican Party line vote, 33-32. It now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
