Professional Development


We believe the opportunity to learn and grow is key to a satisfying career in education.  Professional development is therefore a key focus for PACE.

Therefore, we support a variety of personal professional development and educational advancement initiatives which will improve teachers’ skills, their knowledge, and ultimately their profession.  For, we know that teachers are the best advocates for kids.


Challenger Learning Center of Colorado - PACE has collaborated with Challenger Learning Center of Colorado to provide Colorado teacher/class scholarships to attend on-site or virtual space/science workshops/simulations (flier / application).

University of Colorado Science Explorers - PACE sponsored CU Science Discovery, Science Explorer teacher/student workshops (Science Explorers flier, Science Explorers description).

Science & Engineering Fair Teacher Awards - PACE, the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair, DonorsChoose.org, Space Foundation, and CSU are pleased to recognize outstanding Colorado science and math educators who have supported student research as demonstrated at the Colorado Science and Engineering fair (application).

It's All About M.E. (Motivation and Engagement)
- In response to feedback from educators in the Colorado Springs region suggesting a need for classroom management/engagement professional development, PACE collaborated with CSU Pueblo's office of Professional Development and faculty from the University of Colorado at Denver to establish a series of workshops to support teachers' classroom skills (flier front, flier back).


CSU Pueblo
- PACE sponsored and provided funds for a variety of professional development activities:

  • Weather in a Box - Working with National Weather Service meteorologists, teachers participate in experiments, investigations, and the applicable integration of math, geography, elementary physics, and data analysis.
  • Teaching Reading With the Big Five - Teachers learn how to apply phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency into a balanced reading program to meet state literacy standards while fostering a strong foundation for state testing success.
  • Spanish History and Culture - Teachers collaborate with the Southeastern Colorado Heritage Center to research historical artifacts that cover the migration of people from Spain to the New World and their lifeways in the new land.

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
- PACE sponsored the 4th Annual UCCS College of Education Culturally Responsive Teaching and Counseling Symposium.  Developed for P-20 teachers, counselors and administrators, the event focuses on instructional strategies and curricula specifically designed to meet the needs of all students, particularly students from diverse cultural backgrounds, students receiving special education services, and students of color.

Colorado League of Charter Schools
- PACE sponsored the CLCS 15th Annual Colorado Charter Schools Conference.

Colorado Council of the International Reading Association - PACE sponsored the CCIRA 2009 Conference on Literacy.

Courage to Risk - PACE sponsored the 2009 Courage to Risk Collaborative Special Education Conference.

Colorado Music Educator Association - PACE sponsored the 2009 CMEA Conference.

Rachel’s Challenge - PACE collaborates with Rachel's Challenge to improve school climate and culture in Colorado, nationally, and internationally.  PACE staff serve on the National Educational Advisory Board.

Space Foundation - PACE collaborates with Space Foundation personnel to support the Space Foundation's Teacher Liason Program, Space Discovery Institute, and general professional development programming.

Donors Choose - PACE works with Donors Choose to provide funds and classroom resources for Colorado teachers.

The BETR (Business and Education Talent Readiness) Project - PACE is collaborating with BETR personnel to support school/business partnerships for teachers and students. 
PACE supported rural educators who participated in BETR's Tuesday Tours.

Additionally, PACE promoted and supported other professional development opportunities through various educational organizations (e.g., Colorado BOCES, the Colorado Chautauqua Association, 
the American Statistical Association, and the US Department of Education).


CSU Pueblo
- PACE sponsored and provided funds for a variety of professional development activities:
  • Weather in a Box - Working with National Weather Service meteorologists, teachers participate in experiments, investigations, and the applicable integration of math, geography, elementary physics, and data analysis.
  • More than a "Box of Rocks" - Working with geologists, teachers experience hands-on lessons, traveling to the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and the Dinosaur Resource Center in Woodland Park.
  • What the Bleep Do We Know - Teachers investigate the newest technological tools to connect  science, math, and virtual instruction.
  • Microworlds - Teachers explore intricate and complex microcosms using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), studying applications of the SEM and effects of microscope variables.
